INSTITUTIONALIZATION OF 5S

PTE perceives house keeping as one of the most important elements to create a healthy work environment. After integrating it with our daily management activities, now we have started extending WCM/5S concepts to our suppliers, other service providers, surrounding society and even to a few of our customers. Accordingly, 5S training was given to the following Suppliers : PT. Conitex Sonoco, PT. Asahi Cipta Prima, PT. Sekawan, PT. Purinusa Eka Persada, PT. Kimu 6 Kemasindo and PT. Samajaya. Similarly, 5S training was also imparted to villagers from nearby Village (Kembang Kuning) on 11 June 2004. Having done that, we also gave 5S training on 20 August 2004 to employees of two of our key customers, PT. Insan Sandang and PT. Samatex in their premises.

Safety, Health and Environment
Due to handling of high volume raw materials, high speed rotating machines and the intermediate steps in process of Yarn production In the spinning Industry, there is a risk for physical injury of working personnel. To reduce high cost of industrial accidents and occupational diseases, safe-working practices leading to social and economic development has been inculcated in PTE workculture most effectively by application of different tools. Here production takes place in an environment where people do not have to worry about their personal safety.
The company's Health & Safety Policy is at all times to conduct its operations safely, protecting the health of employees and all others who may be affected by its operations with due regard to the environmental protection and compliance of the statutes. PTE have been maintaining “Zero Accident “status since 1999. Here we hold the issues of Safety, Hygiene and Pollution Control as top most priority .As a good corporate citizen we have been maintaining ISO 14001 since year 2000 and OHSAS 18001 since 2002.
All our new employees are subjected to a compulsory Induction Training program in which safe working practices including use of Personal Protective Devices and safe working environment are the most prominent part. Refresher training of employees is also done on Safety with particular emphasis on near miss and dangerous occurrences; One Point Lessons are extensively used in such trainings. Training on fire fighting and first aid is also given to our employees as per Training Calendar. We are now covering the laborers of our sub-contractors under the Safety training programs. Annual safety campaigns viz. safety poster/slogan are held every year and Awards given to create awareness and motivation.

PTE has adopted a proactive approach for Safety Management. We have been conducting HAZOP studies and Risk Assessment studies every year by external agencies. PTE has got an Integrated Quality Management System combining ISO 9000:2000, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001. Our Safety Manual has been revisited and revised in May 2004 incorporating matters of more relevance. We have an Emergency Plan having an Emergency Team with specific responsibility for each member to tackle any eventuality. Mock Evacuation Drill is held once in six months to keep employees alert all the times.

Though PTE has been declared a “Non-Polluting Industry” and also given “Zero Accident Award” by Government of Indonesia in 2003 for accident free operation for more than 11.52 million man-hours since January 2001, we are ever vigilant. We have a system in place for analysis of all accident / near miss cases and safety related data are displayed prominently for everybody's knowledge.
The company's doctor takes care of the health of our employees. The health reports of employees visiting the doctor are closely monitored and analyzed. All new employees are subjected to compulsory health check. Hygiene audit is conducted every month in the toilets, canteens and in dormitories.
